Flora & Ulysses by Kate DiCamillo

Finished the book

I give Flora & Ulysses a thumbs up. Flora is struggling with her parents' recent separation. She finds comfort in the friendship of a squirrel and the boy next door. The parallel story-lines of all the supportive characters draws you in. Why does William Spiver want to be called by his full-name? Why is he traumatized? Will Flora's mom accept Ulysses? Is Ulysses in danger from a yet identified arch nemesis?

SPOILER ALERT - Being sucked up by a vacumm changes Ulysses. He develops super strength. He can communicate by typing. He writes poetry. And he flies. Ulysses helps Flora find her voice and reconnect with her father. William Spiver, the boy next door, remained my favorite character. At the end not only did his sight return but he got the girl.

A cute story. An easy read. I recommend this book.
